Dr. Nancy Beck is the Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP). OCSPP implements key statutes such as the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, the Toxic Substances Control Act, and the Pollution Prevention Act. Dr. Beck will provide an overview of OCSPP's current and upcoming initiatives, insights into the EPA's strategic priorities and initiatives for pesticide policy, and innovative approaches in pesticide regulation. She has a Ph.D. in toxicology with over twenty-five years of applied public health experience seventeen of which were in government, including over a decade of work as a scientist in the Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) and senior leadership positions at the EPA and on detail to the White House within the Office of Management and Budget and the National Economic Council (NEC). She also served as Director of Regulatory Science at Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP prior to returning to EPA for a third time in January 2025.

Government Relations Special Session | Joint Federal & State Affairs

This session will feature a presentation from Maryland Senator Malcom L. Augustine (D-Prince George’s County). Senator Augustine will explain his multi-year effort to champion packaging Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in Maryland, beginning with an EPR study and recycling needs assessment, and culminating in the passage of an EPR bill by the Maryland legislature during the 2025 legislative session. The Senator will also discuss the stakeholder partnerships that helped get the bill across the finish line.
