Thuy Nguyen
Thuy Nguyen started at the EPA Office of Pesticide Program (OPP) in 1997 in the Environmental Fate and Effects Division, where she performed and led a team of scientists to perform ecological and drinking water risk assessment of pesticides in agricultural uses. In 2008 she joined the OPP Biological Economic and Analysis division (BEAD) as the Branch Chief at the one of the two EPA OPP laboratories - the Analytical Chemistry Branch (ACB) laboratory. The lab is located in Ft Meade Maryland and provides technical and analytical support for the pesticide registration process, focusing on food residue and product chemistry method development, method validation, and sample analysis. She is also responsible for the operation of the National Pesticide Standard Repository, which collects and maintains currently registered pesticide standards, and distributes them, when requested, to Federal, State, and Tribal labs for pesticide enforcement purpose.
Prior to joining the EPA, Thuy managed a CLP contract lab responsible for the analyses of solid and hazardous wastes under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Before that, she was a supervisory chemist of a petroleum research and development laboratory.
Thuy has a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Mary Washington College and a Masters’ degree in Chemistry from the University of Delaware.
